FAQ
Common questions
How accurate are the predictions?
Accuracy depends on how often you log readings and how consistent your propane usage is. With weekly readings over a few fill cycles, the app reaches High confidence and its predictions are typically within a few days of the actual depletion point.
Confidence degrades automatically if readings go stale (30+ days triggers a warning; 90+ days forces Low confidence). The confidence badge is always visible so you know when to trust the estimate versus check your gauge manually.
What happens if I don't update readings regularly?
The prediction engine uses your last known reading and your historical usage rate to project forward. As time passes without a new reading, confidence drops — first to Medium, then Low after 30 days, and eventually the prediction is flagged as unreliable at 90+ days. The app shows a warning so you know to go check your gauge.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. All core features — logging readings, viewing predictions, tracking fills — work completely offline. No internet connection is needed. Premium subscribers who have iCloud sync enabled will sync in the background when a connection is available, but the app never requires it.
Is my propane data private?
Yes. Free users have all data stored locally on their device — nothing leaves your iPhone. Premium subscribers can optionally enable iCloud sync, which stores data in your personal iCloud account for cross-device access. PropanePal has no behavioral tracking, no analytics, and does not sell your data. In-app purchases are handled entirely by Apple StoreKit — PropanePal never sees your payment information.
You can delete all data at any time in Settings → Delete All Data. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
Can I export my data?
Data export is not available in the current version. Your data is preserved through iCloud device backup (for all users) and iCloud sync (for Premium subscribers). A dedicated export feature is on the roadmap for a future update.
What if I skip logging an exchange fill?
A tank exchange (swapping an empty cylinder for a full one) doesn't provide consumption data between readings. If you don't log it, the app may detect an impossible level jump — a gauge reading higher than expected without a logged fill — and flag the data as inconsistent. Log all exchanges even without a gallon count so the app can reset the consumption baseline correctly.
Can I track both a home tank and a grill cylinder?
Yes. The free tier supports one tank. With a Premium subscription, you can track unlimited tanks and cylinders simultaneously — mix ASME home tanks and portable DOT cylinders in the same dashboard, each with its own readings, predictions, and history.
How is price per gallon calculated?
When you log a fill, you enter the gallons added, total cost, and any additional fees or taxes separately. The app calculates two figures: cost per gallon including fees (total ÷ gallons) and cost per gallon excluding fees (base cost only ÷ gallons). Both are shown in the fill history and insights charts so you can compare true delivery costs over time.
